Our proven track record in designing and constructing dams and water treatment plants locally was pivotal in securing the proposed joint venture (JV) to develop the Ulu Padas Hydroelectric Dam in Tenom, Sabah, with an estimated project cost of about RM4 billion.

The development of Ulu Padas Hydroelectric Dam holds significant importance for Sabah in providing a reliable renewable energy source. With a capacity of 187.5 megawatts, this hydroelectric dam will substantially contribute to Sabah's power supply grid.

The JV agreement concerns the entire equity interest in holding company UPP Holdings Sdn Bhd through a 45-40-15 partnership between Gamuda Berhad, Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC) and Kerjaya Kagum Hitech JV Sdn Bhd (KKHJV), respectively.

The design and construction of the dam will be delivered by Upper Padas Power Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the JV company, which will take on the role of a project developer.

Aimed to be completed by 2029, the Ulu Padas Hydroelectric Dam will invigorate Sabah's western coastal corridor, sparking socio-economic growth along its pipelines.

The project will seek certification under the internationally recognized Hydropower Sustainability Standard, aligning with best practices across twelve sustainability areas including the environment, biodiversity, indigenous peoples, water quality, and climate change mitigation.
