Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP)
Connecting two key satellite towns in the Klang Valley, Gamuda Berhad’s responsibilities in building the LDP included design, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance works.
Spanning 40km, the highway has a total of 21 bridges and 19 interchanges.
A major transport project in Australia
Gamuda Australia was awarded a major transport project by the NSW Government, the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package.
In a consortium with Laing O'Rourke, Gamuda will deliver the AUD$2.16 billion (RM6.5 billion) project.
The Western Tunnelling Package scope includes:
- 9km of twin, metro rail tunnel between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park
- Excavation and civil works for new metro stations in the Parramatta CBD and Westmead Health Precinct
- Earthworks, civil structures, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde
- Excavation and underground structures for the Services Facility at Rosehill
Autonomous tunnel boring machines (TBMs) Betty and Dorothy broke through the Sydney Olympic Park tunnel nozzles in June and July 2024 respectively. This milestone is history in the making, marking both Gamuda’s first autonomous TBM breakthroughs in Australia and the nation’s first-ever autonomous TBM breakthroughs. The autonomous TBM utilises innovative artificial intelligence software developed by Gamuda, to steer, operate and monitor several TBM functions. TBM Betty was named after Australia Olympic hero Betty Cuthbert and TBM Dorothy was named after human rights activist Dorothy Buckland-Fuller.
The project will support a growing city and deliver world-class metro services to more communities, providing a fast and frequent connection between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.
It will double rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, transforming Sydney for generations to come. This once in a century infrastructure investment will reduce commuting times to around 20 minutes between the two centres, link new communities to rail services, and support housing supply.
Sydney Metro West will create more than 10,000 direct new jobs and 70,000 indirect jobs, with many of these jobs generated by this major contract. Early works for this project commenced in April 2022, with tunnelling scheduled to start in late 2023 and be completed in 2025.
The project won the Sustainability Leadership – Excellence in Social at the Infrastructure Sustainability Awards 2024.
