Kuala Lumpur: Gamuda Bhd has secured its sixth infrastructure project – the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Metropolitan Yellow Line Civil Engineering, Package YC01 (Package YC01), with the contract sum of RM3.45bil.

“Package YC01 will be executed by an 88:12 unincorporated joint venture between Gamuda Bhd and Asia World Engineering & Construction Co. (AWEC). With a significant 88% share within the joint venture, Gamuda’s share of the contract value is RM3.03bil,” Gamuda said in a statement.

This project is awarded by the Taiwan Kaohsiung City Government’s Mass Rapid Transit Bureau, a MRT division established under the federal Taiwan Kaohsiung City Government.

Gamuda said the package is estimated to be completed within nine years. It said the job scope includes a 4.4km railway track located within NiaoSong district, comprising 3.5km underground twin-bored tunnels and 0.9km of elevated tracks, four stations (three underground and one above ground) and two crossovers and cross passages.

Package YC01 is Gamuda’s third railway project in Taiwan, and second railway project in Kaohsiung. Gamuda built the Kaohsiung MRT Orange Line back in 2008.

In 2022, Gamuda also secured the RM2.13bil TaoYuan City Underground Railway Project (Package CJ18 PingZhen Commuter Station) in Taoyuan.

Gamuda is currently delivering six infrastructure projects in Taiwan that include the Guantang Marine Bridge, Taipei Port Seawall and 161kV Songshu to Guanfeng Underground Transmission Line.
