MGKTs emergency response team in action during the ’traffic accident’

MRT Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRTC) and underground works package contractor MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd (MGKT) recently showcased MGKT’s fire and rescue capabilities, including a demonstration on rescue operations following a serious traffic accident.

MGKT project director Satpal S. Bhogal said there were three types of emergency response teams for the project – a full-time fire and rescue team, an on-site emergency response team and the traffic emergency response team.

“The aim is to extricate the ‘victims’ within 20 minutes with trauma care conducted at the same time,” Bhogal said.

This is part of the “Golden Hour”, he explained, where a rescue mission completed within 60 minutes from the time of impact to hospital for severe cases.

“Quicker is always better and if we can achieve a ‘Platinum’ extrication, within 10 minutes, all the better,” he said.

According to him, the full-time team has 40 employees on round-the-clock shift and overseen by the crisis management director while the on-site team comprises a minimum of five trained emergency response personnel on shift at any time.

MGKT’s full-time rescue service personnel undergo intensive basic training over three months and a selected few are chosen to attend specialist courses for fire fighters as well as medical aid providers.
