Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP)
Connecting two key satellite towns in the Klang Valley, Gamuda Berhad’s responsibilities in building the LDP included design, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance works.
Spanning 40km, the highway has a total of 21 bridges and 19 interchanges.
A major transport project in Australia
Gamuda Australia was awarded a major transport project by the NSW Government, the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package.
In a consortium with Laing O'Rourke, Gamuda will deliver the AUD$2.16 billion (RM6.5 billion) project.
The Western Tunnelling Package scope includes:
- 9km of twin, metro rail tunnel between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park
- Excavation and civil works for new metro stations in the Parramatta CBD and Westmead Health Precinct
- Earthworks, civil structures, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde
- Excavation and underground structures for the Services Facility at Rosehill
Gamuda launched TBM Betty, Australia’s first autonomous tunnel boring machine (TBM) as part of the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package. It is named in honour of Australian athlete and four-time Olympic champion Betty Cuthbert. TBM Betty is the first of two autonomous TBMs to be employed by Gamuda on WTP, and the third of six mega TBMs to start tunnelling on the 24km Sydney Metro West.
TBM Betty will first drive towards Sydney Olympic Park before returning to Rosehill in mid-2024 to start the drive towards Westmead. The second TBM will follow shortly the same sequence alongside Betty to form the twin tunnels.
The Sydney Metro West project will support a growing city and deliver world-class metro services to more communities, providing a fast and frequent connection between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.
Sydney Metro West will double rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, transforming Sydney for generations to come. This once in a century infrastructure investment will reduce commuting times to around 20 minutes between the two centres, link new communities to rail services, and support housing supply.
Sydney Metro West will create more than 10,000 direct new jobs and 70,000 indirect jobs, with many of these jobs generated by this major contract. Early works for this project commenced in April 2022, with tunnelling scheduled to start in late 2023 and be completed in 2025.
