Penang Silicon Island

Penang Silicon Island

A 2,300-acre island development project over the next 10 to 15 years will be one of the key enabling strategies towards fulfilling the Penang State's vision – a World-Class Tourist Destination, a Green Technology Park for knowledge workers, and a project with Smart City Planning addressing Environmental Sustainability.

ESG-compliant and in line with Penang2030 vision

PSI supports and complies with UN SGD goals; ESG principles; the Low Carbon Cities Framework; recommendations by the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) and National Physical Planning Council; and the state's Penang2030 vision that centres on family-focused development.

PSI will have:

20% of land on Island A reserved for green parks, mangroves, water canals, wetlands, floodplains and bioswales to enhance biodiversity and cool the environment by 1-2 degrees Celsius
7km of Central Canal, 3km of public beaches and 5km of the esplanade
140km of bicycle and walking tracks island-wide and a 7km navigational waterway to encourage the use of green mobility, including water transportation
A 100% renewable energy-powered Green Tech Park to achieve 50% carbon reduction by 2030
Minimum platform level of 3m above mean sea level to face any joint occurrences of high tides and a 1,000-year storm surge

At the heart of the community

To ensure the local communities, namely the fishermen, progress alongside PSI, the Group and our subsidiary SRS Consortium are working closely with the Penang State Government to implement the Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP). Initiatives under SIMP include:

New fishermen’s jetties
Larger boats and more powerful engines
A navigation channel for around-the-clock access to the sea
Training
Job and business opportunities
Education and entrepreneurship support
Home-ownership scheme
Koperasi Komuniti Pulau Pinang Selatan (community co-operative for south Penang Island residents and businesses)
