Gali Batu Multi-Storey Bus Depot

Gali Batu Multi-Storey Bus Depot

North Butterworth Container Terminal

The North Butterworth Container Terminal was a civil project pioneered by Gamuda Berhad in the early 1990s. Working with the Penang Port Commission, we constructed the container wharf and approach bridge, as well as container years, buildings and utilities – effectively raising the productivity and robustness of Penang Port, now a prime shipping port in Peninsular Malaysia.

In 2019, Gamuda Singapore was awarded the contract to build the Gali Batu Multi-Storey Bus Depot by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA). Penetrating the Singapore infrastructure market for the first time, this project marks a key breakthrough moment for the Group’s strategic direction in setting a strong foothold in Singapore’s engineering and construction industry.

The project consists of a five-storey main bus depot, a three-storey administrative building and a five-storey dormitory equipped with parking spaces for 715 buses, refuelling and washing facilities, and repair and maintenance facilities with cutting-edge technology to cater for the operation of electric buses. The depot will accommodate additional buses introduced over the years as the overall bus capacity increases under Singapore’s Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) and Bus Contracting Model (BCM).

This largest bus depot in Singapore will support more than 200 e-buses with 120 electric vehicles (EV) chargers. Meantime, 4,736 solar panels with an estimated generation capacity of 1 MWp will be installed on the rooftop of the bus depot.

Contributing to the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the country’s national agenda on driving sustainable development, this project is also set to achieve BCA Green Mark for New Non-Residential Buildings with many green features:

  • LED and photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to achieve 45% energy saving over baseline
  • Rainwater harvesting system
  • Automatic irrigation system with rain sensor
  • Cooling tower water treatment
  • Chemical water treatment for the cooling tower to achieve 7 COC
  • Green building materials
  • EV charger installation for fast charging
  • Sustainable Landscape Management with the adoption of native green species – more than 50% of the flora selected wherever possible to maintain the local ecosystem
Gali Batu Multi-Storey Bus Depot excavation and piling works have been completed, with the superstructure works currently ongoing at the site. The project is scheduled for completion in 2024.
