Gamuda secures RM702mil wind farm construction contract in Queensland, Australia

Kuala Lumpur: Gamuda Bhd via its Australian subsidiary DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd has bagged a A$243mil (RM702mil) design and construction contract for the Boulder Creek Wind Farm project in Queensland, Australia.

The award – the first wind farm project for the DT Infrastructure unit – was received from the project’s equal owners – Aula Energy and CS Energy.

The construction stage of the project is a continuation of the partnership between DT Infrastructure and Aula Energy, which began with the signing of an early contractor involvement (ECI) contract in March 2024.

The duration of the contract is 32.5 months and is expected to commence in late 2024, the group said in details provided to Bursa Malaysia.

“Site preparatory works are expected to commence before the end of 2024, with site activity ramping up from early to mid-2025,” said the group in a separate press release.

The project will comprise 38 turbines with a generating capacity of 228MW (6MW per turbine). Located about 40km southwest of Rockhampton in Queensland, Gamuda said it is expected to power approximately 85,000 homes once it commences operations in 2027.

This will bolster Queensland’s efforts to reach its electricity generation target of 70% overall supply from renewables by 2032.

“DT Infrastructure has worked with Aula throughout the ECI phase of the Boulder Creek Wind Farm, which has resulted in an in-depth understanding of the project, location and needs of the community.

“We look forward to drawing on that early contractor knowledge to optimise procurement, construction and delivery practices that will ensure the success of Stage 1 of the project,” said Gamuda.
