Education that builds an international workforce
In his youth, Mohd Nor Shafiq Hadi Misro was labelled mat rempit. His life took a complete 180 when he joined 1,000 other local youths in Gamuda’s very first batch of Tunnelling Training Academy (TTA) trainees.
The TTA started out as an initiative to build a local talent pool of tunnellers which didn’t exist before in Malaysia and simultaneously supported the skills volume needed to deploy the KVMRT project.
Since then, Gamuda has been on a roll to build a future-ready workforce for Malaysia and regionally, ramping up STEM and AI capabilities, and driving innovation and national resilience.
Australia
The Tunneling & Infrastructure Academy (TIA) provides a safe and simulated training environment with specialist tunnelling equipment and VR simulators, to train and upskill our employees and subcontractors, in partnership with Registered Training Organisations, Group Training Organisations, universities, schools, and Aboriginal businesses.
We partner with organisations like the National Rugby League to provide scholarships for Indigenous youth and offer programmes such as Women in Tunnelling, in partnership with ‘Empowered Women in Trades’ to bridge gender gaps in construction.
Singapore
In collaboration with Singapore’s Ministry of Education, Gamuda Singapore will be providing scholarships to top civil engineering students from prestigious universities such as the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Institute of Technology, and others. Stay tuned for the award ceremony!
Vietnam
Gamuda Land Vietnam sponsored five Vietnamese students to pursue tertiary education through its inaugural scholarship programme last year.
With its success, a new season is back, with up to 10 scholarships offered this year. Now, even final year university students are welcome to apply, and includes majors in wider STEAM categories, such as Business Studies, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, and Law.
Previously, one-off financial assistance was given to 100 students from the VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities who were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Malaysia
Tracing our journey back to 1997, we established the Gamuda Plant Operator School (GPOS) to streamline the different competency levels of crane and earthmoving plant operations. Following that, the TTA – the world’s first learning institution for tunnel boring machine technology – provides highly specialised TVET to young graduates and school leavers. With safety as a top priority, our KVMRT Safety Training Centre (KTC) develops skills and competencies in high-risk activities.
Bringing transformative impact to the lives of deserving students from B40 and M40 families, the Gamuda Scholarship provides financial aid, professional development, and career placements with opportunities to work overseas.
In 2022, Gamuda Land collaborated with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to reward the best landscape architecture students, which also included a research grant, professional courses, formulating park and green area guidelines, landscaping competitions, and others.
As sustainable development becomes increasingly important, we established the first TVET course on the Next-Gen Digital Industrialised Building System, in collaboration with VTAR Institute. Meanwhile, the Building Information Modelling (BIM) Academy trains employees and subcontractors to design and automate our projects with the tool.
Within the family, Gamuda Excellence Transformation supports our own digital transformation journey through a data-driven approach. It’s all about helping our teams discover new ways of work.
Most recently, we launched the Gamuda AI Academy as we make strides with GenAI beyond project integration. The Academy offers world-class training, industry-leading technology, and unparalleled mentorship to master full stack AI, harnessing the power of Google Cloud – skills that are critical to the marketability of individuals in ever-evolving industries. In this unique opportunity, we are fully sponsoring students. Our aim is to forge a new generation of AI and Cloud innovators, and bridge the AI talent gap, in line with the national digital transformation roadmap.
