Introducing Gamuda Building Unit
02 Jul 2019 | Teh Teck Siong, General Manager at Gamuda Building Unit.

Gamuda Building Unit (GBU) started as being the in-house construction arm to undertake building projects rolled out by our property arm, Gamuda Land. Since its formation at the end of 2014, GBU has come a long way from having merely 10 people on its staff to now, over 150 people in the unit -and it is still growing.

With the newly setup Gamuda IBS (GIBS) in Year 2016, the Group has diversified into building construction specialising in Industrialised Building System (IBS). Together with Gamuda IBS, GBU is set to become a one-stop design and build solution offering design expertise, design-to-suit products, constructability and delivery of value-added projects to the building market.

The decision came in timely when GBU together with GIBS participated in one of the outright tenders for a project to build 864 units affordable homes for PKNS and successfully secured the project through an open tender. This ultimately boosts our confidence and strengthen our position to become a true independent building contractor alongside with other prominent building players in the market.

Since then, we have been actively participating in outright tenders focusing mainly on IBS-related construction. To-date, GBU has successfully delivered 4 projects and building 7 projects which are under construction. GBU has managed to build a portfolio which covers different types of building construction ranging from landed to high-rise buildings and from residentials to shopping malls and the list goes on.

Owing to the closely-knitted value chain all under one roof, we bring together a group of dedicated and supportive individuals from Project Management, QSHE, Design & Technical and Contracts & Commercial, each contributing their expertise and experience in delivering the highest quality construction services whilst maintaining the highest priority on all safety, health and environment aspects to our customers.

Riding the wave of the “Go Digital Technology”, Gamuda Building Unit has also set up the Building Information Modelling (BIM) division to offer the state-of-the-art technology in better managing and controlling the project effectively and efficiently as well as facilitating the tender team in virtual project implementation and programming.

With our current setup, we are confident that we would be able to achieve a greater milestone and aim to position ourselves as one of the top players in Malaysia’s construction market.
