After a successful build in October last year, Gamuda Sports Club decided to pursue the second home building programme for the Orang Asli community as part of the company's CSR programme. This round, a different village and a larger home.
The recipient of the new home is Bah Azahreen. He is 29 years old and his wife Mas, 21 years old, has just recently gave birth to a newborn baby. The structure and general living condition of their home before the building programme was overcrowded as the whole family including Azahreen's mother and brother-in-law were living under the same roof. The living conditions of the home at that time posed a possible threat to the family as the infrastructure is structurally unsound.
With the above in mind, an open call for volunteers were made to Gamudians in early June and believe it or not, registration was closed a day after as there was an overwhelming response. Volunteer spots were taken up swiftly and 36 Gamudians (17 male & 19 female) responded to the call of compassion and giving back to the society by embarking on a 3 days 2 nights life-transforming initiative in Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Gopeng.
Other main objectives of this CSR programme were to promote unity, teamwork and silo-busting across various departments in the company. After all, it was another epic build as our volunteers managed to stay ahead of the programme for 3 days and handed over the keys to Azahreen's family at 5.30PM on the final day of work. The tears of joy on Azahreen's face upon receiving the keys confirmed that all the sweat and hard work of our volunteers under the scorching sun had paid off. It was well worth the cause.
